PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the increase of power consumption which is generated because the interval of pulses becomes too small when a gradation level is high and to prevent the change of the gradation level due to external factors such as temperature or a signal delay in drivers or wirings. SOLUTION: A voltage being smaller than a voltage which is to be supplied to a signal line is written in pixel electrodes. Moreover, gradation is displayed by shifting the phase of a wave form of the signal line from that of a scanning line and, also, polarities of pixels in a signal line direction are inverted for every other pixel.
