IMAGE CONVERTER AND ITS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image converter that can realize resolution conversion with less image quality deterioration through the resolution conversion such as pixel thinning or pixel interpolation that are not affected by insignificant pixels when receiving an image signal. SOLUTION: The image converter receives an image signal (Si) denoting a pixel value and a significant signal (Ss) denoting whether or not a pixel value of each pixel is significant as an input signal, and a resolution conversion characteristic decision unit (103) selects a prescribed resolution conversion characteristic from two kinds of resolution conversion characteristics or over for the resolution conversion or the like of the image signal (Si) by referencing pixels in the vicinity of the pixel of the received significant signal (Ss) and using only significant pixels. A resolution conversion unit (105) applies resolution conversion to the input image signal by using the selected resolution conversion characteristic and provides an output of the result as an image converter output signal (Sr).
