PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission capable of providing highly efficient and stable friction transmission by preventing the transmission incapability due to such phenomenon that a belt is caught inside pulleys, which is caused by the instability in friction force or friction coefficient attendant upon the pressurization when securing the torque of an axle by means of the belt friction force produced by externally pressurizing a pulley, or the efficiency deterioration caused by a shortage or an excess in the friction force of in/out put pulleys in a large speed ratio range, as a result, without depending upon the types of belts such as tension type or pushing type belts. SOLUTION: In the continuously variable transmission wherein an input operation device comprising a pressure device, which supplies the elastic force generated by compressing an elastic device by a compressor in series to the input pulley, and a drive source, which controls the pressurization to the input pulley variably according to commands from an adjusting device, adjusts the friction force of the input pulley by controlling the pressurization for supplying elastic force variably, as a result, the torque of an output pulley, which does not pressurize V belts actually, is adjusted variably indirectly through belt tensile strength. |
