PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the wheel detector of a simple structure with excellent durability capable of detecting a wheel even at the high speed of a certain level and surely detecting even the retreat of the wheel for a long period of time. SOLUTION: For this wheel detector 1, strain generation parts 3a-3d are formed at one part each near both ends of one long-length beam 2 and at two parts close to the center and flatly formed wheel load introduction parts 4a and 4b are provided on an upper surface. Wheel load supporting parts 5a, 5b and 5c are formed on the bottom surface of the long-length beam 2 respectively corresponding to the part between the respective end parts of the strain generation parts 3a and 3d and the part between the strain generation parts 3b and 3c. Slits 7a and 7c are formed from the upper part of the strain generation parts 3a and 3d of the long-length beam 2 to the respective end parts and the slit 7b is formed at the upper part of the strain generation parts 3b and 3c. Thus, when the wheel is mounted on the wheel load introduction parts 4a and 4b, the wheel load is received through the strain generation parts 3a-3d by the wheel load supporting parts 5a-5c, shearing strain is generated at the strain generation parts 3a-3d.
