PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve damping force in a blade tensioner. SOLUTION: This blade tensioner 1 is constituted of a base 4, a blade shoe 2 having a chain sliding surface 2a and provided on the base 4 and plural sheets of plate spring type blade springs 3 laminated and arranged on an opposite side of the chain sliding surface 2a of the blade shoe 2 and for applying spring force to the blade shoe 2. A base end part 22 of the blade shoe 2 is rotatably provided on the base 4 and a tip part 21 is slidably provided on a base surface 41 of the base 4. At a portion in contact with the slide surface 41 of the tip part 21, a friction material 5 is provided. Each end part of the blade springs 3 is inserted into each groove 21a, 22a of the blade shoe 2.
