PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection image display device that realizes uniform bright display with high resolution and is suitable for downsizing and low cost. SOLUTION: The projection image display device is provided with a light source 1, an image display panel 8 having pixel areas each of which can modulate light, optical control means 4-6 that focus the light from the light source 1 to a corresponding pixel area depending on its wavelength band, and optical systems 9, 11 that use the light modulated by the image display panel 8 to form an image on a projected face 13, and also with a circuit that generates data of sub-frame images from data of each frame image of the image and allows the image display panel to display the sub-frame images in time division and with an image shift element 11 that shifts the selected sub-frame image on the projected face 13. Batch write onto the screen of the image display panel 8 can switch the display of each sub-frame and executing the shift by the image shift element 10 synchronously with the switching above can sequentially emit lights belonging to a different wavelength band modulated by different pixel areas of the image display panel 8 onto the same area on the projected face 13. |
