PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver and its method that can retrieve a program desired by a user in real time from programs received in an easy operation without disturbing viewing of the programs displayed on a screen and can select a program image pattern retrieved by an easy operation among program images under viewing. SOLUTION: The receiver is configured of a reception means that receives video data and audio data relating to programs and program information data relating to the programs, a retrieval means that retrieves a program corresponding to a prescribed retrieval condition among the programs received by the reception means, and a control means that controls the retrieval means so as to repetitively conduct the retrieval processing by the retrieval means while receiving the video data and the audio data relating to the program by the reception means.
