摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for eliminating the large increase of the amplitude of a signal which is deemed to be essential in the conventional column inversion driving system and for solving a crosstalk phenomenon being a problem from the viewpoint of picture quality with the drive where a displayed signal amplitude is small and where power consumption is low in a transverse electric field display system. SOLUTION: In the active matrix type liquid crystal display device of a transverse electric field system, an additional capacitance 106 is formed between each pixel electrode 104 and either scanning wiring of the front stage or the rear stage of scanning wirings 101 with respect to each pixel electrode 104 and, also, the front-stage formation and the rear-stage formation of these additional capacitances are made alternately for every signal wirings 102 adjacent with each other. Then the polarities of potentials to be applied to signal wirings 102 are inverted for every signal wirings adjacent with each other, the potential of the signal line is transferred to a pixel electrode 104 in the ON period of a switching element 105, and a modulation potential changing in the direction of the same polarity with the polarity of the potential of the signal line being transferred to the pixel electrode 104 is applied to the scanning wiring 101 on which the additional capacitance 106 is formed in an OFF period.
