PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent over-bending and damaging to an elastic cantilever contacting beam of an electrical terminal, and to provide an electrical connector having an electrical terminal commonly used for both long and short contacts. SOLUTION: A box receptacle terminal 10 is used for a multipolar connector and has an elastic cantilever contacting spring beam 12 stretching out from a receptacle base 14. The beam 12 is bent reversely at the middle of both ends, forming a reversed bending part 20 toward the front, and is prone to bend toward outside against the receptacle base 14 when it gets insertion-coupled with its counterpart contact, Two sidewalls 42, 44 are formed upwards from the receptacle bases 14 of both sides facing to the beam 12. Sidling projections 38, 40 stretch out from the beam 12 edge between the beam 12 and the reversed bending part 20. These projections 38, 40 are extended under the sidewalls 42, 44, to control an inward bending of the beam 12 against the receptacle base 14. Thus, the beam 12 avoids getting damages or an excessive stress, when the terminal 10 is inserted into a connector housing cavity.
