PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and image forming device that can sufficiently ensure the stable traveling performance on an original face and a read face of an image sensor at an original read position on a front side and a rear side of an original sheet. SOLUTION: The image reader and image forming device is provided witch a 1st image sensor that reads an image of one side of an original sheet being a placed original, a 2nd image sensor 28 that reads an image of the other side of the original sheet, a 1st platen 6 that is in contact with the one side of the original sheet at its react position to support the original sheet when the 1st image sensor reacts the original sheet carried by an original automatic feed means, a 2nd platen 7 that is placed at a position opposed to the 1st platen 6 with the original sheet inbetween, and supports the original sheet from the one in order that the 2nd image sensor 28 reads the image on the other side of the original sheet, and support and fix the 1st and 2nd platen and a 3rd platen 5 on which a thick original is placed so that the platens continuously form the same plane.
