PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device improved in luminous efficiency of a panel. SOLUTION: The plasma display device quipped with a plasma display panel provided with a front substrate, a back substrate, a plurality of barrier ribs arranged so as extend in a first direction, respective phosphor layers of red, green and blue and a discharge gas enclosed between the front and back substrates and having discharge cells which are arranged in the form of a matrix and of which the intervals in a second direction almost perpendicular to the first direction defined by the plural barrier ribs arranged so as to extend in the first direction, satisfies S2/S1<=0.6 or 0.02<=S2/S1<=0.4, (wherein S1 is an area of a discharge space surrounded by a groove defined by adjacent barrier ribs and the front substrate in a plane perpendicular to the first direction; and S2 is an area of the phosphor layer).
