PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the thermal efficiency of a hot-water supplier and, at the same time, to reduce the generated amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx). SOLUTION: The burner 10 of the hot-water supplier comprises a combustion chamber 22 in which liquid fuel, such as kerosene, etc., is burnt and which has an oval shape in its top view, a downwardly opened vaporizing pipe 16 provided at about the center of the chamber 22, a scattering ring 18 which is provided below the pipe 16 with a very narrow gap in between, an ignition device 20 provided near the pipe 16, and a blower 12 which supplies air into the pipe 16. Since the combustion chamber 22 has the oval shape in its top view, the chamber 22 can be brought nearer to a heat exchanger 40 having a combustion space S which is arranged around the burner 10 and has a rectangular shape in its top view even in the lateral direction of the chamber 22. Consequently, the thermal efficiency of the hot-water supplier can be improved and, at the same time, the generated amount of NOx can also be reduced.
