PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and its control method that can efficiently transmit a read image to a device having various specifications. SOLUTION: In the case that a color mode is set, a color image is read from an original and stored, and a black/white binary image is read from the original and stored (S404-407). The stored color image or the stored binary image is selected according to specifications of a device of a transmission destination and the selected image is transmitted to the device.
