PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor comprising a sliding piece which is easily worked and molded at a low cost while having the same characteristics as a conventional one. SOLUTION: The variable resistor comprises a rotor 3 which is rotated, a board comprising a resistor on its surface, and a sliding piece 5 which is fitted to the rotor for integral rotation and slides on the resistor of the board. The sliding piece 5 is formed of a springy conductive wire material, and an intermediate flange 5b is formed at its central part 5a while contacts 5c and 5d bent diagonally to the central part 5a are formed at both ends. The central part 5a and the portions of the contacts 5c and 5d which are closer to the central part are inserted and held in a slit 3g of the rotor 3 while the intermediate flange 5d is engaged with an engagement slot 3h formed orthogonally to the slit 3g.
