PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method by which a color proof faithful to printed matter is stably obtained by using a silver halide photosensitive material consisting of various kinds of paper, etc., as a base. SOLUTION: The method for forming images for the proof of printed matter by exposing the silver halide photosensitive material having silver halide emulsion layers containing at least three kinds of silver halide emulsions varying in spectral sensitivity and respectively combined image forming materials of yellow, magenta and cyan on the reflecting base with a scanning exposure device in accordance with digital data consists in subjecting three kinds of the emulsions of the spectral sensitivity varying in the spectral sensitivity to exposure with the exposure energy of standard exposure conditions then to density measurement after development and controlling the exposure energy by inputting the data based on the result thereof to the data input section of the image forming device thereby regulating the solid part density of the yellow, magenta and cyan to a desired density.
