PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a three-phase current limiter which can limit currents with high efficiency, does not require any DC power source, can be reduced in size, use maintenance-free permanent magnets, and can be manufactured inexpensively. SOLUTION: In this current limiter, first and second magnetic circuits 1 and 2 each of which is constituted of a permanent magnet 3, two first yokes 4 provided on both end faces of the magnet 3, and a magnetically saturated soft magnetic core 5 provided between the other ends of the yokes 4 on the opposite sides of the magnet 3 are arranged in such a way that the magnetic cores 5 face each other through a gap 8 and three independent coils 7 are wound around the cores 5 at prescribed intervals so that the cores 5 may be saturated magnetically in opposite polarities. In order to improve the current limiting efficiency of this current limiter, in addition, six pairs of L-shaped second yokes 6 are jointed to the magnetic cores 5.
