PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for the transfer of control command information and status information, and to sufficiently ensure an extendible storage capacity by increasing the number of connectable recording/reproducing devices for extension. SOLUTION: This data recording/reproducing system is provided with a main data recording/reproducing device for recording data inputted from an outside part, and for reproducing and outputting the recorded data to the outside part and plural extended data recording/reproducing devices connected to the main data recording/ reproducing device. In this system, the connection of the main data recording/ reproducing device to the (n) extended data recording/reproducing devices is confirmed to one device for each slot, and the transfer of control command information and status information is operated only to the extended data recording/reproducing device accessed one slot before and the extended data recording/reproducing device necessary for the present slot so that the operating state can be decided, and the inputted data are distributed and recorded in the plural recording media by the main data recording/ reproducing device and each extended data recording/reproducing device, and the data distributed and recorded in the plural recording media are reproduced, and the reproduced data are integrated into single data and outputted.
