PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-forming apparatus which properly switches functions of a line terminal of a control means connected by a start-stop synchronization serial communication line to a device interface which can connect extended peripheral devices and jigs in common. SOLUTION: The CPU 5 of this image-forming apparatus 1 has the UART terminal 13 connected by the start-stop synchronization serial communication line to the peripheral device I/F 11 set to an engine board 2. A download process of turning the UART terminal 13 to function for extended peripheral devices in accordance with an indication of an operation part 4 and transferring an engine firm to an F-ROM 6 from an IC card 20 in which the engine firm is recorded when the IC card 20 is set to a connector 9, and an external program operation control process of switching the UART terminal 13 to function for jigs and using jigs connected to the peripheral device I/F 11 on the basis of an external program stored in the IC card 20 in which the external program other than the engine firm is stored are switched by the engine firm in the F-ROM 6. |
