摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To widen the surface area of a porous base material such as a low cost carbide or activated carbon having small raw material loss and low adsorption without reducing the weight (to attain the high performance) and to attain the reduction of waste released material or the decrease of manufacturing energy. SOLUTION: The surface area is increased by keeping the porous base material 1 at 200-700 deg.C (particularly 300-600 deg.C) under an atmosphere in which carbon monoxide or a carbon-containing material is present, to generate carbon from carbon monoxide or the carbon-containing material present in the atmosphere based on the Boudouard's reaction or pyrolytic reaction and depositing the resultant carbon on the inside of the pores of the porous base material 1 to increase the surface area. Thus, the material having high surface area is manufactured.
