JOINT DETECTOR OF METAL STRIP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint detector of a metal strip which is capable of reliably detecting a joint even when the metal strip is oscillated during carriage and easily handled. SOLUTION: In this joint detector of the metal strip which is disposed in a carrying passage of the metal strip to detect a joint of ends of the metal strips which overlap and are connected to each other, a pair of rolls 20a and 20b disposed facing both sides in the thickness direction of the metal strip is rotatably supported by each of a pair of arms 12a and 12b with a base end thereof pivotably supported and the other end supported in an oscillating manner, an energizing means 24 for energize the pair of rolls 20a and 20b against the metal strip is provided, roll units having sensors 32 and 34 to detect the advancing/retracting space of the arms mounted on the pair of arms 12a and 12b are disposed at least on two positions in the carrying passage of the metal strip, and a detection unit for detecting the joint of the metal strip from the output signal of the sensors 32 and 34 of the roll unit is provided.
