PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an unsaturated alcohol from a nonconjugated unsaturated aldehyde in high conversion and high selectivity. SOLUTION: In the presence of a catalyst constituted of (A) copper single or (B) a combination thereof with the second metal, a nonconjugated unsaturated aldehyde is hydrogenated in a vapor phase to produce the objective unsaturated alcohol. The hydrogenation may be carried out by introducing the feed flow including the unsaturated aldehyde and hydrogen into the hydrogenation zone at a temperature higher than the dew drop temperature of the feed flow. As the unsaturated aldehydes stated above, are cited the following nonconjugated unsaturate aldehyde represented by formula (1), wherein R1 is a hydrocarbon group bearing at least one unsaturated bond; R2 is H atom or a hydrocarbon group which may bear unsaturated bonds, further R1 and R2 may form a cycloalkene ring together with the adjacent carbon atoms. |
