PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal material having an appropriate phase range, low crystallization tendency at low temperatures, a low birefringence, an appropriate electric resistance and, in addition, a low threshold voltage (V10) which particularly becomes important to response time, and a rotation viscosity (γ1). SOLUTION: The electro-optical liquid crystal display contains a liquid crystal medium having a reorientation layer in which a liquid crystal having a component essential to reorientation parallel to a liquid crystal layer is reoriented therein and a positive dielectric anisotropy as well, and the medium comprises one or more mesogen compounds and one or more compounds of the formula (wherein R1 is H, a 1-7C alkyl or alkoxy group, a 2-7C alkenyl, alkenyloxy or alkoxyalkyl group; and Y11, Y12, and Y13 are each independently H or F). |
