PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot for use as a pet that grows well enough for the robot user to have a stronger affection. SOLUTION: The user is verified by an iris verification system 4 and a behavioral pattern for the user is loaded from a user behavioral pattern memory 6; the robot behaves in accordance with the behavioral pattern and obtains information from sensors 2 and 3 so that a learning/growing system 5 varies the behavioral pattern for the user. The behavioral pattern for each user is saved in the memory 6.
