PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contrive a remarkable reduction in operating labor by reducing entanglement a great deal and allowing an upper puller to be operated to rise and fall by a light force and avoid the occurrence of the incapability of operation and improper operation caused by the slackness of a screw. SOLUTION: An upper puller 3 is rotatably held at the lower end part, and a notched groove 15 is formed in the tip surface of a sewing machine arm part 1 close to a vertical shaft 2 provided with an elastic energizing force downward by a spring 8. An engaging projection 17 engaging at the lower end of a shaft embracing member 7 is fixed and projected out at a batten plate member 16 fitted and held in this notched groove 15 slidably only vertically, and this device is constituted by being provided with a crank mechanism 23 converting the downward operated rocking motion of a rocking lever 10 into the upward sliding motion of the batten plate member 16 between the rocking lever 10 having no fulcrums and the batten plate member 16.
