PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die cooling system and a die cooling method of a glass product forming machine constituted such that all of coolant passages are enclosed and are protected from friction and fatigue under the severe operating conditions of the glass product forming system. SOLUTION: This system and method cool the glass product dies by passing the liquid coolants through enclosed type pivotal rotary union type structures and direct the coolants to the blank die half parts or finish die half parts of the glass product forming machine. A coolant manifold is supported by respective pivotal die arms and is communicated with coolant inlet ports and outlet ports at the bottom ends of the die segments. The respective pivotal connections, i.e., the pivotal connections between section boxes and crank arms, between the crank arms and rotary union assemblies and between the rotary union assemblies and floating shaft seals have two-way rotary unions for supplying the liquid coolants to the manifold and the die segments and returning the liquid coolants from the manifold to the die segments.
