PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silver-oxide based contact material having a stable long contact service life in use for a resistance load and a coil load by controlling the grain size distribution of the oxide. SOLUTION: This electrical contact material is obtained by subjecting an Ag alloy having a composition containing, by weight, 3.0 to 9.5% Sn and 1.0 to 5.0% In, and, if required, further containing 0.05 to 0.8% Te and one or more metals selected from Fe, Ni and Co by 0.01 to 0.5% and the balance Ag with unavoidable impurities to internal oxidation treatment. In the obtained material, the average diameter of the equivalent circle of the cross section of oxide measured by the SEM image analysis of the cross section of the material is 0.1 to 0.2μm, and the total of the areas of the cross sections of the oxide in which the diameter of the equivalent circle is included in the range of 0.1 to 0.4μm occupies >=75% of the cross section area of the oxide. The material exhibits excellent effects in fusion resistance and consumption resistance in a resistance load and an induction load.
