PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly pure vinyl pyrrolidone polymer which can dissolve in an organic solvent to form a transparent solution. SOLUTION: Vinyl pyrrolidone is polymerized in the presence of a redox catalyst containing an organic peroxide and a bisulfite, and the obtained polymer is purified by contact with an anion exchange resin.
