PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method for producing a low-boiling monoisocyanate. SOLUTION: This method for producing a low-boiling monoisocyanate having 70 to 320 deg.C boiling point under atmospheric pressure comprises reacting (A) a high-boiling isocyanate compound having at least 180 deg.C boiling point under atmospheric pressure and at least 50 ppm HC content with (B) a primary amino group-containing monoamine at a reaction temperature of 180 deg.C highest temperature in the molar ratio of an isocyanate group to an amino group of 4:1 to form a compound containing a biuret/urea group, simultaneously thermally decomposing the compound to form a monoisocyanate corresponding to the monoamine (B) and separating the monoisocyanate by distillation optionally under a reduced pressure.
