PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acyclic nucleoside, new, industrially advantageous, and capable of synthesizing the acyclic nucleosides, such as acyclovir and ganciclovior, from ribonucleosides. SOLUTION: This method for producing the acyclic nucleoside comprises adding an acid catalyst and a carboxylic acid anhydride to a mixed solution of the ribonucleoside, such as guanosine, and an ester derivative of an acyclic sugar chain, and heating to react so that a base exchange reaction between a ribose portion of the ribonucleoside and an acetyl derivative of the acyclic sugar chain is conducted. Thus the method makes it possible to industrially produce the acyclic nucleosides, such as the acyclovir and the ganciclovior, simply in high yield by using the ribonucleosides as raw materials.
