PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent shock in changing a running direction even when a table is run at a high speed in a short stroke and displacement in running reverse by smooth operation of the table, and to reduce cost, in a device for reciprocating the table of a machine tool. SOLUTION: Check valves 15 and 16 are disposed in working fluid supply pipes 6 and 7 to both rod cylinders 2 for reciprocating the table, a metering cylinder 14 is disposed via intake pipes 17 and 18 communicating with respective working fluid supply pipes 6 and 7, and a closing circulation loop of the working fluid is formed between both rod cylinders 2 and the metering cylinder 14. Supply of the working fluid from a tank 12 is stopped, the metering cylinder 14 is operated, supply and intake of the working fluid for both rod cylinders 2 are performed, for reciprocating the table in a short stroke.
