1. A laminated packaging material (12, 12') for a flowable food container (10,15, 15'), the laminated packaging material (12, 12') comprising a first layer (18) and a second layer (20) composed of a fiberboard material with polymeric material coatings (28, 30) thereon, the first and second layers (18, 20) each having an inner and outer surface, and a third layer (22) juxtaposed between the inner surfaces of the first layer (18) and the second layer (20), the third layer (22) having a sinusoidal cross-section thereby forming a plurality of compartments, defined by the third layer (22) and one of the first layer (18) and second layer (20), characterized in that the third layer is a fluted material having a flute density of 6 to 15 flutes per linear centimeter and the compartments orient along the length of the laminated packaging material. 2. The laminated packaging material (12, 12') according to claim 1, characterized in that each of the flutes has a height profile of 8 mils to 50 mils. 3. The laminated packaging material (12,12') according to any of the preceding claims characterized in that a barrier layer (34, 138) is adhered to the outer surface of the first layer (18). 4. The laminated packaging material (12,12') according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the laminated packaging material (12, 12') is fabricated into a gable-top carton (10), a parallelepiped container (15), and the like. 5. The laminated packaging material (12,12') according to claim 1, characterized in that the laminated packaging material is a wound web of material (39). 6. The laminated packaging material (12,12') according to claim 1, characterized in that the laminated packaging material (12, 12') is a carton blank (14). 7. The laminated packaging material (12,12') according to claim 1, characterized in that each of the flutes is adhered to one of the first and second layers (18,20). 8. A method for producing the laminated packaging material (12,12') for a flowable food container (10,15, 15') comprising a third layer (22) juxtaposed between the inner surfaces of the first layer (18) and the second layer (20), the third layer (22) having a sinusoidal cross-section, the first layer (18) and a second layer (20) composed of a fiberboard material with polymeric material coatings (28, 30) thereon, ), characterized in that the third layer is a fluted material having a flute density of 6 to 15 flutes per linear centimeter, each flute is adhered to one of the first or the second layer forming compartments, said compartments orient along the length of the laminated packaging material. 9. A method of using the laminated packaging material (12, 12') according to claim 1 for fabricating a container for flowable food products. |
