PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make accurately and efficiently readable a bar code by easily recognizing and correcting the scanning position and the width of laser light on the bar code surface in both manual scanning and automatic scanning. SOLUTION: This bar code reader is equipped with a laser diode 2 and a rotary mirror 8 which deflects emitted laser light to make a scan, and a photosensor 25 detects the rotational position of the rotary mirror 8 at three positions corresponding to both end positions and intermediate position of the scanning range of the bar code 1 by the laser light. The rotation of the rotary mirror 8 is stopped for a specific period of time in the automatic scanning when the photosensor 25 detects thin pieces 20A and 20C at both ends and the rotation of the rotary mirror 8 is locked in the manual scanning when the intermediate thin piece 20B is detected so that the laser light can easily be recognized. |
