PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell that has a gas dispersing layer having high water repellency for a long period and functions stably with high output density for a long time. SOLUTION: The solid polymer fuel cell comprises a gas dispersing layer formed with a water repellent carbon layer containing carbon black and a solvent soluble fluorine-contained polymer having no ion exchanging group in substance (preferably a polymer having a fluorine-contained aliphatic cyclic structure) arranged adjoining to the catalyst layer on the surface of a substrate made of carbon paper or carbon cloth.
