PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify assembly, improve accuracy, and reduce weight since a stator core 12 can be retained reliably by a positioning groove 38 that is provided radially at an annular part 20b of a fixed enclosure 20. SOLUTION: A linear motor 10 includes a plurality of stator cores 12 that is composed of an outer yoke 22 whose section is in a U shape where an electromagnetic steel plate is laminated, and an inner yoke 24 whose section is nearly in an I shape where the electromagnetic steel plate is laminated with a specific magnetic gap 16, fits an excitation coil 14 to the stator cores 12, at the same time arranges a permanent magnet 18 movably at the magnetic gap 16, further accommodates and retains the stator cores 12 in the fixed enclosure 20 of a nonmagnetic body. The fixed enclosure 20 is provided with a cylindrical part 20a, and an annular part 20b that is formed at one end of the cylindrical part 20a, eight positioning grooves 38 are provided radially at the annular part 20b, and the lower end of the eight stator cores 12 is accommodated and retained at the groove 38 and is fixed by a locking tool 42.
