PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, an image-forming device, an image reading method and image forming method that can provide an output of a normal image with a simple configuration, independently of the state of a contact glass plate and an original feed means. SOLUTION: The image-forming device is provided with an automatic original feeder 2 that transports an original onto an original platen glass plate 3; an original illuminating lamp 4 that illuminates the original which is moved on the original platen glass plate 3 by the automatic original feeder 2; a CCD unit 8 that reads the light from the original illuminated by the original illuminating lamp 4 as image information; and a controller section 12 that decides the stop position of the original illuminating lamp 4 for illuminating the original, in response to an output value of the CCD unit 8 when the original illuminating lamp 4 illuminates the different positions of the automatic draft feeder 2 when no original exists on the original platen glass plate 3.
