PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial polyester yarn having excellent spinnability, excellent antimicrobial properties, slightly changing in color (discoloring) even by an alkali treatment and having an excellent color tone. SOLUTION: This polyester yarn contains 0.1-10 mass % of a silver-based antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial agent satisfies requirements of (1) the main component of the antimicrobial agent is a metal phosphate, (2) the amount of silver in the antimicrobial agent is 0.05-2.0 mass % and (3) the amount of sodium in the antimicrobial agent is <=0.1 mass %. The color tone change (ΔE) of a fabric before and after an alkali treatment is <=5.0.
