PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium having proper recording/ reproducing characteristics. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium is obtained by stacking at least a recording layer (2) and a reflecting layer (3) in this order, on one face of a substrate (1) opposite to the plane of incidence of the laser beam. The recording layer (2) is formed by stacking a recording underlayer (2a), a principal recording layer (2b) and a recording assisting layer (2c), in this order on the substrate (1). A wavelength λ1max at which the recording underlayer (2a) has the maximum absorption, a wavelength λ2max at which the principal recording layer (2b) has the maximum absorption and a wavelength λ3max, at which the recording assisting layer (2c) has maximum absorption satisfy the relation λ1max>λ2max>λ3max, the wavelength λ2max and a recording wavelength λrec satisfy the relation λrec-100 nm<λ2max<λrec, the recording underlayer (2a) absorbs a light of wavelength λrec, and the recording assisting layer (2c) will not substantially absorb a light of wavelength λrec. |
