PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take a copy between external storage devices with no problem without using a large-capacity RAM. SOLUTION: When a host computer inquires whether or not a command is being executed while an external storage device access part is performing a copying process to an external storage device, a host connection part connects a signal line in the bus of the host computer to an answer part. The answer part answers the host computer that the external storage device is executing the command and unable to accept a command. The host connection part notifies the external storage device access part of the inquiry from the host computer. On receiving the notice, the external storage device access part ends the copying process and informs the host connection part of the copy end through an access acknowledgement part. The host connection part connects the signal line in the bus of the host computer to the bus of the external storage device. Consequently, the host computer becomes able to directly access the external storage device and transmit commands and data.
