A benzimidazole compound has the formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof wherein: R11 is a 5 or 6 membered monocyclic heteroaryl group containing at least one nitrogen or an N-oxide thereof; one of R6 and R7 is H and the other is CR'=NOR"; R' is H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or phenyl; R" is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or phenyl substituted with one or more hydroxy groups. A pharmaceutical composition thereof is useful for treating anxiety, sleep or memory disorders or epilepsy or other convulsive disorders.
