PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared communication apparatus in which multi- directional infrared communication can be realized while suppressing power consumption independently from arrangement of the apparatus. SOLUTION: The infrared communication apparatus comprises infrared light emitting elements A3, B4 and C5 arranged to direct toward different directions, an element 6 receiving infrared light transmitted from a counterpart 7, a multiplexer 2 for switching one of the infrared light emitting elements to be used, and a controller 1 for commanding the multiplexer 2 to switch the infrared light emitting element based on reply results from the light receiving element 6. At the time of communicating with the counterpart side, communication is tried by emitting light from any one of the plurality of infrared light emitting elements. When the emitted light can not be received on the counterpart side 7, light is emitted sequentially from other light emitting elements until communication is established. |
