PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a female terminal fitting. SOLUTION: The female terminal fitting 10 has an elastic contact piece 16 provided inside a cover 20. The elastic contact piece 16, while being deflected elastically outwards, makes contact with a male tab 33 inserted in the cover 20. A recess part 25 allowing access of the piece 16 is formed in a sidewall 21 of the cover 20. By providing the recess part 25, at least a portion of a deflection space for the elastic contact piece 16 is secured within the range of thickness of the sidewall 21 of the cover 20, so that the sidewall 21 can be located on the inside by that amount.
