PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin ventilating apparatus capable of effectively sucking and exhausting soot and vapor, etc., upon cooking on a table, and of dealing with a building having a lower height of the ceiling. SOLUTION: There are provided on a body case 10 configured into a box with an opening directed downward and including an exhaust opening section 10b formed in a side surface, a fan mechanism 20 having an exhaust outlet 22b facing the exhausting opening section 10b and having a suction inlet 22a directed downward, an expansion tube 30 communicating with the foregoing air suction inlet 22a and expandable vertically, an air suction section 41 communicating with a lower end opening section in the expansion tube 30, and an expansion mechanism 50 or elevating the foregoing air suction section 41 between a containing position where it is contained in the foregoing body case 10 and a lowering position where it is lowered by a desired distance while expanding the foregoing expansion tube 30.
