PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode-ray tube with high performance and high image quality by enhancing the denseness of a phosphor film formed with a phosphor for the cathode-ray tube. SOLUTION: The phosphor for cathode-ray tube is formed by coating the surface of a phosphor particles with at least one selected from a group of silica, zinc silicate, zinc oxide, aluminum silicate, aluminum oxide, and titanium oxide, and carboxymethylcellulose, and a metal hydroxide, and its manufacturing method contains a process in which an aqueous solution containing carboxymethylcellulose, an acidic salt solution containing metal ions, and an alkaline solution are added to a phosphor particle dispersion prepared by dispersing phosphor particles, and the surfaces of the phosphor particles are covered with a metal hydroxide produced by neutralization reaction of the acidic salt solution and the alkaline solution together with the carboxymethylcellulose. The cathode-ray tube has a coating film formed with the phosphor prepared like this.
