摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of forming sharp fluorescent images through the photoelectric detection of fluorescence when used in a fluorescent image detection system, and capable of enhancing the efficiency of collecting accelerated phosphorescence when used in an autoradiography image detection system that uses a stimulable phosphor sheet, a chemical emission image detection system, an image detection system that uses an electron microscope, or a radiation diffracted image detection system. SOLUTION: The image reader includes laser excitation beam sources 1, 2 and 3, a stage 20 for selectively placing two kinds of image carriers 22, an optical head 15 for scanning the tops of the image carriers with the laser beams 4 emitted from the laser excitation beam sources and for exciting the image carriers with the laser beams, a photomultiplier 39 for photoelectrically detecting light excited by the laser beams and emitted from the image carriers, and optical systems 19, 17 26 and 27 for guiding the light emitted from the image carriers to the photomultiplier. The optical systems 17 and 26 have spatially different transmission and reflection characteristics to the wavelength of the light, thus making it possible to change the numerical aperture for a different wavelength of the light.
