SLOT ROD FOR OPTICAL FIBER CABLE, AND OPTICAL FIBER CABLE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the flexibility of a slot rod and to suppress an increase of the light transmission loss of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: A body section 1a of the slot rod 1 is composed of a foam, and central part of this main body section 1a is provided with a tension member 3. The outer peripheral part thereof is provided with groove parts 2. The surface regions of these groove parts 2 are provided with solid body layers 8 to form the inner peripheral surfaces of the groove parts 2 as flat surfaces. The solid body layers 8 consist of solid bodies of thermoplastic resins. The solid bodies have a melt flow rate within a range of >=0.05 to 40 [g/10 (minutes)] and the thickness of the solid body layers 8 is set to be within a range of >=10 to <=1,000μm. The optical fibers are housed into the groove parts 2 and a coating member is applied to the body section 1a, by which the optical fiber cable is formed. The problem that the light transmission loss of the optical fibers is increased in consequence of the inner peripheral surfaces of the ruggedness of the groove parts 2 can be suppressed, and the dimensional accuracy of the groove parts 2 can be improved.
