At least one workstation has a conveying unit raising a belt section (2a) into contact with the pressure belt (1) above it. With the article (10) between the two belt sections, it is transferred across the spreading region for treatment. The conveying unit can be lowered below the table, whilst the article is driven across between the two workstations by a central conveyor. An actuator moves the conveying unit up or down. Preferred features: The conveying unit pivots. The actuator is implemented such that several different raised positions of the conveying unit are selectable.
