PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle position detector capable of reducing the cost of a light shielding type sensor and preventing a vehicle position from being erroneously recognized. SOLUTION: The light shielding type sensor 32 is disposed parallel with the traveling direction of a vehicle to minimize a distance between a light emitter and a light receiver. Because a high sensitive sensor need not be installed on the light shielding type sensor 32, the cost of the sensor can be reduced. The depth and installation distance of front and rear conveyors 27a and 27b are determined so that, when front wheels 10a and 10b are present on the front conveyor 27a, rear wheels 10c and 10d can be positioned on the rear conveyor 27b. Therefore if the front wheels 10a and 10b are confirmed to be present on the front conveyor 27a, the rear wheels 10c and 10d can be recognized to be surely present on the rear conveyor 27b. As a result the vehicle position can be surely known without erroneously recognizing the vehicle position.
