PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipe joint member which facilitates installation work thereof and rigidly ties pipes together, and to provide a pipe joining method. SOLUTION: The pipe joint member (1) axially tying a second pipe (3) to a first pipe (2), includes a first insertion portion (11) formed therein, which allows the first pipe (2) to be inserted therein. A retaining ring body (30) formed of an elastic material is arranged on the periphery of the first insertion portion (11), and by forcedly expanding the retaining ring body (30) in an outward direction, by a pressing body (25) interposed between the first insertion portion (11) and the retaining ring body (30). As a result, the retaining ring body (30) is pressed onto the internal surface of the first pipe (2) to fix the first pipe (2) to the first insertion portion (11), and thereafter the second pipe (3) is connected to the pipe joint member (1).
