An industrial laundry machine has a clamp on a carriage moving on a vertical mast. In its lower position it grips articles and in its upper position releases them so a device transfers them to a conveyor. A control unit for the carriage and clamp disengages the carriage drive when the detected stress on the clamp exceeds a threshold that would damage the clamp. A reduction motor may drive the carriage thru a drive pulley, notched drive belt and second pulley. The drive can be disengaged between the motor and the drive pulley. |
