PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP(plasma display panel) operating with high luminescent efficiency and having high color-reproducibility, and provide a method capable of conducting a calcination process, a sealing process, and an evacuation process when manufacturing the PDP in a short time and with small energy consumption. SOLUTION: Of the processes for manufacturing the PDP, a phosphor baking process, the sealing material calcination process, the sealing process, the evacuation process and the like are conducted in a dry gas atmosphere, or in an atmosphere of reduced pressure and flow of dry gas. Or, a front substrate and a back substrate are calcined with their facing surfaces opened, the front substrate and the back substrate are sealed while dry gas is let to flow in an inner space, the front substrate and the back substrate are preliminarily heated with the facing surfaces opened, then both substrates are piled up and sealed. Or, the front panel substrate and the back panel substrate are piled up and sealed, and the evacuation process is started without lowering the temperature of the substrates to the room temperature. Or, after the calcination process of the sealing material, the sealing process is started without lowering the temperature of the substrates to the room temperature.
